JUN 09, 2005 (newstodate): In its latest market forecast, Boeing expects the world's freighter fleet to double over the period 2004-2024.
In 2004 Boeing counts a total world fleet of 1,757 freighters, including 920 small freighers, 265 medium widebody aircraft, and 463 large freighters.
During 2005-2024 the world's freighter operators will add 24 small, 178 medium widebody, and 519 large freighters.
During the same period, operators will withdraw 767 small, 85 medium, and 251 large freighters.
Also during 2005-24 operators will convert a total of 2,148 passenger aircraft to freighters, including 1,066 small, 605 medium, and 477 large aircraft.
By 2024, the world's freighter fleet will thus comprise 1,255 small, 1,063 medium, and 1,208 large freighters.
Conversions will thus outnumber new deliveries by 3:1, and 70 percent of today's freighter will be out of service at the end of 2024.
