JUN 15, 2005 (newstodate): With the latest issue of Boeing's Current Market Outlook 2005, covering the years 2005-2024, the company moves closer towards Airbus' vehement forecastings of demands for very large aircraft.
Boeing has thus updated its estimate in this segment of aircraft in the 747/A380 class by some 15 percent, now forecasting a global market need for 900 aircraft, including 590 new passenger aircraft and 310 freighters.
This is, however, still a far cry from Airbus' Global Market Forecast that estimates a need for 1,650 aircraft in the top-end segment, including 1,250 passenger and 400 freighter aircraft.
Reflecting the increased optimism by Boeing for development in this segment, the company has mulled plans for a new, enlarged version of its well-tested Boeing 747 aircraft at the ongoing Paris Airshow.
