JUN 23, 2005 (newstodate): Officially reopened to commercial traffic from the start of this month, Iraqs Basra International Airport is preparing to install navigation, surveillance and visual aid systems.
With the planned upgrading, the airport will comply with ICAO standards.
On June 4, Iraq Airways launched domestic Boeing 727 flights between Baghdad and Basra, and a number of foreign airlines have indicated interest in starting commercial operations at Basra that currently offers higher security levels than other Iraqi airports.
