JUN 06, 2005 (newstodate): Aeroflot may take in a batch of 16 Airbus A320 aircraft on a lease agreement, industry sources say.
The carrier will reportedly use the aircraft on its European route network, and if the deal actually goes through it will represent a blow to the Russian aircraft industry, already troubled by lack of new orders despite the launch of the TU-214 aircraft that was seen as the successor to the TU-134 and TU-154 operated by Russian airlines.
Aeroflot was the first carrier in Russia to introduce Airbus aircraft as it ordered 18 A320 Family aircraft delivered at the end of 2004.
Airbus says a total of 35 Airbus aircraft have so far been delivered to a total of nine Russian carriers.
