JUN 13, 2005 (newstodate): Russian carrier Aeroflot may announce its decision acquisition of up to 50 new mid-range aircraft at the Paris Air Show, opening today.
The Aeroflot order will inevitably decide the future of the Russia's own aircraft production where the Russian Regional Jet, Sukhoi's RRJ, the Ukrainean An-148 and the Tupolev TU-334 are competing to succeed the elderly fleet of TU-134 aircraft.
If Aeroflot decides in favour of a western-built aircraft it will mean a further blow to eastern aircraft manufacturers, where Russia has seen its civilian aircraft industry sinking to record-low levels in sales and production over the recent years.
