MAY 20, 2005 (newstodate): In three weeks, construction work will commence on Tirana Airport's projected air cargo centre.
To be built on a site to the north of the existing terminal, the new cargo centre will have direct access to the north apron with an annual capacity of handling more than 4.500 tons of airfreight in its first phase.
A later phase envisages a capacity of handling more than 6,000 tonnes of airfreight per year.
Equipped with new handling equipment, the new air cargo centre will comprise a freight forwarding office, customs department, refrigerated stores, VET, VALS and other facilities, and will be provided with adequate security measures to ensure secure cargo storage.
HOCHTIEF AirPort recently took over operations at Tirana International Airport Nene Tereza through its Albanian consortium, Tirana Airport Partners, and is investing 83 million euro in various projects including the construction of the new cargo terminal, a new bridge and a new access road.
