MAY 12, 2005(newstodate): The new owners of Scandinavian low cost operator Sterling expects its fleet to double to meet the new plans of the company aiming at increasing number of destinations and passengers volumes.
-We want to enlarge the company, and we see good opportunities in the market for Sterling. Destinations in the US southern states, including the Florida areas, are being investigated, and Thailand is also in the picture, Almar Orn Grimsson, Sterling's new president, told Icelandic press.
Icelandair currrently carries Danish passengers to the USA with an intermediate stop in Iceland.
Mr Grimsson says that Sterling will offer direct competition in this market by offering lower rates and direct, non-stop services without a stop at Iceland
