MAY 27, 2005 (newstodate): In April, air cargo volumes at Czech airport Prague Ruzyne increased by a meagre 1.6 percent over last year.
In total, 4,533 tonnes of air cargo was handled at the airport.
The airport complains that this is significantly below business levels at competing airport like Vienna and Budapest.
Most cargo is transported into and out of Prague as additional freight on regular passenger flights. There are on average only four dedicated cargo flights a day, the vast majority of them by smaller turboprop aircraft.
The exceptions are DHL with seven weekly flights with a B757 aircraft, and China Airlines offering two weekly freighter flights using B747-400F aircraft
