MAY 19, 2005 (newstodate): As rates continue to drop, optimisation of capacity is crucial.
-We must look extremely detailed into where we put our capacity, and what cargo is ultimately accepted on board our flights, says Gareth Kirkwood, British Airways World Cargo managing director.
-Enhanced yield management is crucial to ensuring that cargo revenues on each individual flight is at its premium. But in the end it also focuses on targeted capacity increases aligned to customer demands, he says.
In last year's performance BAWC saw the first full-year benefits of its third long hauol freighter, and the continued enhancement of its European Short Haul Freighter program, while a fourth freighter was added in September 2004, together with the launch of the third Seoul rotation.
This year will see the launch of six new destinations.
BAWC now transports 25 percent of its total volumes on freighters that grant the company the flexibility to react promptly to market demands, in addition to optimising the filling of the bellies of BA's passenger aircraft.
