MAY 10, 2005 (newstodate): Plans for direct non-stop Boeing 747 flights by Baltia Air Lines between New York JFK and St Petersburg are progressing, and the route is now slated for inauguration this fall.
Further down the line are plans for routes from New York to Moscow, Kiev, Minsk, and Riga.
-We will start operations with one Boeing 747-200 on an ACMI lease contract with an Icelandic provider, but more aircraft will be added to match market demands, says Bob Strom.
Initially, the airline plans to offer once-weekly services during the first four to six weeks, later increasing to three weekly services and, after the first six months, to five to seven weekly flights.
Air cargo services will from the outset be considered a key business, budgetted to contribute 25 percent of total revenues as the carrier will be alone in offering direct non-stop services between the two markets.
Latvian-born Igor Dmitrowsky will serve as the carrier's chairman and president, while Hans G. Wolf will serve as Director of Cargo Handling.
