MAY 12, 2005 (newstodate): Air cargo transportation is playing an insignificant role in Moldova.
During the period January-March, 2005, the country generated a total of 3.3 million tonnes of cargo on all modes of transportation, down 16.3 percent on last year.
Railroad transport reigns supreme, with 88 percent, or 2.8 million tonnes, down by 19.3 percent, followed by trucking, 385,000 tons, up 16.5 percent, maritime transportation with 5,600 tons - and air cargo with a meagre 19 tonnes, up 5.6 percent, according Moldova's National Bureau of Statistics.
During Q1, Moldova's air passenger volumes reached 58,300, up 9.4 percent.
