MAY 25, 2005 (newstodate: Hungarian carrier Malev has initiated the process towards membership of the oneworld airline alliance.
Malev may join the alliance by next year already, pending the delivery of documentation of its ability to comply with the full service delivery specifications of the alliance, satisfactory quality and safety audits, and a new business plan.
The oneworld alliance currently comprises American Airlines, British Airways, Qantas, Iberia, Cathay Pacific, LAN, Finnair and Aer Lingus, with Aeroflot knocking at the door.
Loss-making Malev is currently seeking ways to privatise after efforts at finding new owners through a tender failed earlier this year.
