MAY 13, 2005 (newstodate): Low cost carriers strongly object to the rise in passenger charges to be levied at Budapest Ferihegy Airport's Terminal 1.
-They would never re-open Terminal 1 some months ago without lowered charges as they had enough capacity at Terminal 2, and Terminal 1 was an old-fashioned, non-facilitated bulding from the "communist era" only made attractive to low cost operators by low charges, says an industry source inside the LCC business.
According to the source, LCC will find only old gates and out-dated check-in areas at Terminal 1, but they will still face the airport's new demand for passenger charges at euro 9.15, up from euro 3.50 before the "renovation", and among the highest for LCC operations in this region.
In addition, the airport will also charge euro 3.50 per passenger for security, reaching euro 12.65in total charges per passenger.
