MAY 27, 2005 (newstodate): Lithuanian airline Aurela has started operation on a new route between Copenhagen Airport and Egilstadir, Iceland.
The route is operated for an Icelandic travel agency once weekly with a YAK-42D, to be replaced from November 3 by a Boeing 737-300 aircraft.
-Since June, 2003, we have also operated a twice-weekly route between Tel Aviv, Israel, and Vilnius, Lithuania, on behalf of Middle East Airlines Ltd, says Julius Maseiva, Aurela deputy general director.
This route is operated with a mix of YAK-42D and Boeing 737-300 aircraft.
Aurela, set up in 1996, is taking part in the tender for Lithuanian Airlines, as part of a consortium also comprising telecom and IT provider Firma, and the Lithuanian tour operator, Tez Tour.
Mr Maseiva, however, declines to comment on the business plan if the consortium's offer should be selected as winner of the tender.
