MAY 12, 2005 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo will today lift an unusual and fragile 750 kg shipment from Bonn/Cologne Airport to New York JFK.
The shipment is a six meter high and 2.6 meter wide window constructed by a German glass studio to commemorate the destruction of the Twin Towers in the St. Joseph Chapel, New York.
On May 22, 2005, the window will be handed over to the responsible officials in the presence of the Archbishop of New York and of former city mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
The St. Joseph Chapel, located in the ground floor of an apartment block close to the World Trade Center, remained virtually unscathed by the terror attacks of September 11, 2001.
Due to its proximity to the Twin Towers, it was used extensively as a resting-place for rescue workers and firefighters. In future, it will serve as the central memorial site for Catholics from around the world.
