MAY 24, 2005 (newstodate): Industry observers doubt that the Icelandic bid by the investment company Fons Eignarhaldsfelag through Iceland Express will eventually top the tender for privatisation of Lithuanian Airlines.
-Even though their bid may turn out to be the highest, as it presumably is, the bi-lateral aviation agreements with Russia may be rendered void to preclude non-Lithuanian ownership of the airline, observers say.
Four bids have now been opened by the Lithuanian Public Tender Commission.
They include, besides the Icelandic offer, three Lithuanian parties.
One is a Lithuanian consortium comprising tour operator Novaturas, bus operating company Kautra and an investment company Hermis Capital - the owner of Kautra.
Another bid has been filed by a Lithuanian consortium comprising telecom and IT provider Firma, Lithuanian airline Aurela, and tour operator Tez Tour.
The third Lithuanian bid has been filed by Arijus - a Lithuanian forwarding and logistics company that also acquired Air Lithuania after a tender in February, 2004.
The results of the tender is expected by early or mid-July
