MAY 24, 2005 (newstodate): Boeing has launched the Boeing 777 Freighter, driven by a launch order from Air France for five 777 Freighters, and three options.
The first 777 Freighter is slated for delivery to Air France in the fourth quarter of 2008, and the new aircraft will gradually replace the carrier's 747-200F fleet.
The new 777 Freighter will have the capacity to fly 9,195 kilometers with 103 tonnes of cargo.
The Boeing 747 Freighter family currently constitutes more than half of the world's total freighter capacity. Boeing freighters of all models comprise more than 90 percent of the total worldwide freighter lift.
Boeing forecasts that large widebody freighters including the Airbus A380F, offering a capacity of 65 tonnes and above, will comprise 31 percent of the market by 2023.
