MAY 23, 2005 (newstodate): An apparent drop in RTKs by Austrian Airlines does not indicate falling cargo volumes.
-The decline by 1.3 percent in RTK for April actually reflects a slight decrease in passenger volumes, as the RTK counting also includes calculation of the average weight of passengers and luggage, says Franz Zoechbauer, Austrian Airlines VP Cargo.
-Actually the cargo figures for January-Aprilm 2005 show an increase by 4.8 percent, compared to last year.
-If you take into consideration that we increased our production by only 1,6 percent during the period, I think that on the cargo side we have done not so badly, he says.
According to Mr Zoechbauer, the company's cargo load factor on long haul flights was slightly over 80 percent in the first four months of this year.
