MAY 05, 2005 (newstodate): Airbus is confident that it will reach triple-digit sales figures for its A350 aircraft, out in 2010.
-I expect to announce a few major orders at the forthcoming Le Bourget exhibition in June, and while not saying that we will reach 200 orders before the end of the year, we will come pretty close, says John Leahy, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer.
-Rather than considering the A350 an Airbus A330 derivative, the A350 will rather emerge as an all-new aircraft with a significant technology transfer from the A380, and it will certainly beat the Boeing competitor in economics and performance, he says.
According to Mr Leahy, Airbus has radically improved on the concept over the last 90 days, admittting that it had flaws in its earlier design.
-We have allowed ourselved to take time to make it right, and now it is firmly settled as a prime option, he says
