MAY 12, 2005 (newstodate): Struggling against succesful competition from Boeing in the long-range, medium-size aircraft segment, Airbus is airing visions of a freighter version of its A350.
The unspecified plans were aired at a recent lecture in Dubai by Adam R. Brown, Airbus VP customer affairs directorate.
The Gulf state airlines are now in the focus of a major Airbus offensive to attract orders for its A350 option. Emirates and Qatar is expected to firm up orders for up to 110 aircraft in this segment within only a few months - probably timed to coincide with the air show in Paris this June.
Airbus has so far landed only 10 orders from one European operator for its A350 against a firm order book by Boeing for delivery of 250 aircraft to 20 operators in Europe, Asia, Africa and Canada.
