MAY 18, 2005 (newstodate): The first Airbus A380 freighter will lift by mid-2007, Airbus says.
The aircraft will enter the Airbus final assembly line by the third quarter of 2006, about the same time the first A380 passenger aircraft will enter service with Singapore Airlines.
Two aircraft will then be employed in the freighter certification process, one being the MSN 037 that will be fitted with heavy flight test equipment, and the MSN 053 that will be fitted with light flight test equipment and perform the actual certification flights.
The freighter will then be ready for commercial service by 2008.
So far Airbus has landed 27 firm orders for the A380 freighter
