APR 27, 2005 (newstodate): In 2004, Yekatarinburg Koltsovo Airport in Russia's Sverdlovsk Region, saw its cargo volumes up by 13.3 percent.
The airport generatred a total of 20,457 tonnes of cargo.
Domestic cargo was up by 12.6 percent to 7,160 tonnes, international cargo increased by 12 percent to 12,686 tonnes, and CIS-cargo accounted for 611 tonnes, up 67.7 percent on the preceding year.
So far into 2005, the development is less positive, however.
In January-March, the airport generated a total of 2,550 tonnes of cargo,down 41.2 percent on last year.
While domestic cargo has grown by 15.4 percent to 1,635 tonnes, international cargo is down by 69.2 percent to 855 tonnes, and CIS-cargo has declined by 56.6 percent to 60 tonnes, compared to last year.
The airport is currently being targetted for a major modernisation and expansion project including new terminal, upgrading of existing terminals, and modernisation of its two runways in addition to plans for a third runway.
