APR 12, 2005 (newstodate): Georgia's Tblisi Airport will be pushed to the very limits in connection with US president Bush's visit to the country on May 10.
The presidential visit will include the landings of three large aircraft, including the president's Air Force One, a C-141 Starlifter carrying this motorcade, and one Boeing 777 carrying the press corps and other staff.
-We have only one runway, and the three aircraft will occupy all three parking areas, says the airport director.
Some aircraft may be parked on the airport's de-commissioned old runway, but the Tbilisi airport has expressed concerns about how the presidential aircraft fleet will land and park at the airport.
A tender for construction of a new airport terminal at Tblisi Airport has recently been prolonged to allow for more bids, while a new CAT II runway lighting system is being installed.
