APR 01, 2005 (newstodate): Swissport is expanding its activities to comprise new business in Africa.
In Algeria, Swissport is establishing a JV with the Arcofina group to become the first non-Algerian company to obtain an airport ground handling licence in Summer 2005.
And in Sudan, Swissport has concluded a franchise agreement with MASS Aviation Support which should see ground handling activities commence in May 2005.
Algiers Airport handles some four million passengers, 20,000 tonnes of cargo and 45,000 aircraft movements a year. In addition to Air Alg�rie, the airport is currently served by ten other airlines, and more carriers have announced plans to introduce scheduled services in 2005.
In Khartoum, MASS will handle seven airlines and over two million passengers a year from May onwards under the Swissport brand.
Majority-owned by UK-based investing company International Ltd., Swissport will be operating at 14 stations in eight African countries, providing more than 30 airlines with the full range of airport handling services after the addition of the activities in Algeria and Sudan.
