APR 20, 2005 (newstodate): Stockholm Arlanda's cargo statistics are unreliable, and a new system is being implemented to prove the actual performance.
-Our official statistics state a total volume at 75,610 tonnes for 2004. This is, in my opinion, a gross underestimate, says Karsten Bjarbo, LFV Stockholm Arlanda cargo manager.
-My own estimate is closer to 130-140,000 tonnes of flown cargo, in addition to some 235,000 tonnes of trucked cargo, and the discrepancy is due to the inefficiency of the figures reported by the airport handling companies.
-We have actually developed a new system that builds on the information provided directly from the operators. We are in the process of persuading the handling companies to switch to this new statistical reporting system and hope for a break-through soon, he says.
