APR 01, 2005 (newstodate): Lufthansa Cargo has launched a new "heat & cool" container to transport temperature-sensitive products.
The Unicooler container, operated by dry ice and heater system, is manufactured and provided by German producer DoKaSch, supplier of customized and standard air cargo equipment.
A temperature recording device has been installed to monitor the temperature inside the cooling compartment of the container during the entire transportation chain, and data can be downloaded by wire or by wireless transfer.
The Unicooler is specially designed for goods that require a constant temperature during transportation, such as vaccines, plasmas, proteins and biotechnological material.
After successful testing with selected pilot customers in recent months, Lufthansa Cargo is from today introducing the Unicooler at 26 pilot stations as the first phase of a worldwide implementation.
