APR 19l 2005 (newstodate): Turning the general trend, Finnish logistics and brokering company Logimix has recently been able to negotiate longer-term contracts with military customers for provision of uplift capacity.
-The general trend is for contract periods to become shorter and shorter, and in most cases customers open tenders, often collectively, to seek cheapest bids from aircraft brokers, says Juhani Peltonen, Logimix CEO.
-Fortunately, some military customers realise that by seeking the cheapest, short-term solutions they invariably obtain a correspondingly lower quality that most often entail unforeseen costs and problems.
-The situation may be, when they return to us, that we may face problems with re-establishing our former airline contacts as suitable operators and available aircraft are not in the plenty. It is very fortunate, therefore, that we have recently concluded 12 month contracts with some of our military customers, rather than four or, at best, eight months contracts. This allows for better quality, and more profitable operations to the benefit of all parties, he says.
