APR 05, 2005 (newstodate): Swedish airport Gothenburg Landvetter saw its cargo volumes down by 23 percent in February.
The airport generated a total of 4,272 tonnes of airfreight, comprising 2,422 tonnes of imports, down 11 percent, and 1,850 tonnes of exports, down by 34 percent, y-o-y.
For January-February, the total accrued to 8,713 tonnes, down nine percent, with exports dropping 19 percent to 3,810 tonnes.
-During the period Polar cancelled one weekly frequency to the USA, but now operates a weekly flight Shanghai-Kazakhstan-Gothenburg instead, says Bjorn Lennartz, Gothenburg Airport manager route development.
-On the positive side is also Emirates that is to add its third rotation on the route Gothenburg-Dubai-Hong Kong. Thus Emirates has increased its services at Gothenburg from just one to seven weekly flights since September 2003, which bodes well for our continued development, he says.
In 2004 Gothenburg Airport handled a total of 64,455 tonnes of air cargo, up 19 percent on the preceding year.
