APR 13, 2005 (newstodate): Airbus has celebrated the "first metal cut" for the Airbus A380 freighter on April 12.
The event marked the start of manufacturing of the largest commercial freighter ever and is also a confirmation that the A380F programme is on track, says Airbus.
The Airbus A380F will have the capacity of lifting 150 tonnes of cargo over a range of 10,400 km at the lowest unit cost of any freighter.
So far, Airbus has landed a total of 27 firm orders and commitments for the new freighter from four operators.
