APR 08, 2005 (newstodate): In the wake of the Bulgarian decision to put the airports of Varna and Bourgas into the hands of Copenhagen Airports, the focus in now on the future levels of airport handling charges.
In a letter to the Bulgarian minister of transportation, the Bulgarian Airlines Association has called for a ceiling on future ground handling charges by the new airport operator.
The association suggests that charges must not increase by more than three or four percent annually.
Finding the current airport handling charges to be already exhorbitant, the Association fears that Copenhagen Airports will further increase the level in order to recoup its investments as required under the concession contract.
