APR 01, 2005 (newstodate): ATR is strengthening its foothold in the Russian market by new agreements with UTair.
In October 2004, ATR succesfully landed a tender by UTair in competition with Bombardier, comprising delivery of five ATR42-300 aircraft to gradually replace the carrier's existing fleet of 30 AN-24 and Yak-40 aircraft.
UTair has now signed a contract for the purchase of 2 ATR 42-300 to develop its regional market.
The first aircraft is expected to be delivered by Continental Airlines in June this year.
UTair, based at Khanty-Mansiysk, is also negotiating with ATR for a training and Global Maintenance Agreement contract, in order to provide world-wide comprehensive airframe maintenance, equipment repair and standard exchange services.
-We are interested in taking up to 15
ATR aircraft in order to meet our fleet expansion plan. Apart from leasing, we are also
looking at opportunities to buy them but this will be conditional on lifting import duties on
foreign aircraft types, says Andrey Martirosov, UTair CEO.
