APR 13, 2005 (newstodate): Latvian SAS-owned carrier airBaltic is to continue its expansion in the market of neighbouring country Lithuania.
airBaltic set up its operational base at Vilnius, Lithuania, in 2004, and now provides flights to 11 destinations including Berlin, Dublin, Hamburg, Helsinki, Copenhagen, London, Munich, Oslo, Riga, Tallinn and Vienna.
The initial six months of service in Lithuania ended in a budgetted loss, but the airline's CEO expects to see figures in the black from this year.
airBaltic says its market share in Lithuania was up from 9.74 percent in 2004 to more than 20 percent in the first quarter of this year.
The carrier will reinstate its flights from Vilnius to Helsinki, offering twice-daily connections.
airBaltic currently operates a fleet comprising seven Boeing 737-500 and six Fokker 50 aircraft, with a seventh due within a few weeks.
