MAR 07, 2005 (newstodate): Iran's new capital airport at Tehran will "probably" attempt its second opening in April this year, one year after its completion.
After only six scheduled landings by international airlines, Iran's new international airport at Tehran, the Imam Khomeini International Airport was shut down after its formal opening in May last year as the military moved in to block the runways with army vehicles, banning the Turkish company that operated the airport from the area, and forced its staff to withdraw.
In October 2004 hard-liners in Iran's parliament dismissed the country's transport minister, accusing him of mismanagement of a range of issues including air safety, and the awarding to the Turkish-Austrian TAV engineering consortium of a contract to run the capital's new airport.
