MAR 31, 2005 (newstodate): The Macedonian government is preparing for the privatisation of Skopje and Ohrid Airports.
The government reportedly expects "at least" five or six offers for the concessions to run the airports, and the German company Hochtief AirPort Company is known to have documented its interest.
The succesful bidder must be able to demonstrate his competence from managing and operating at least two airports with a minimum of two million passengers.
The concession terms of Skopje Airport will be based on the concept "invest-operateleave", while Ohrid Airport be an traditional concession agreement.
The privatisation process is expected to be completed by the end of year, and the two airports will then be operated by foreign concessionairies from 2006.
Both airports have been upgraded over the recent years.
The US company Parsons was contracted to expand and renovate Skopje Airport under a USD50 million deal with the Macedonian transport ministry, and Ohrid Airport's modernization has been financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
