MAR 22, 2005 (newstodate): Lithuania's state-owned airport, Kaunas International Airport is approaching a crossroads in its development.
If the airport's international traffic develops, its state-ownership will continue and the airport may develop further.
Today, Kaunas International Airport is primarily trafficked by privately-owned Air Lithuania providing scheduled flights to Billund, Hamburg, Oslo, and Malmoe.
The airport is currently in talks with Ryanair that would, if succesful, provide the airport with a solid foundation for expanding its international traffic.
Other scenarios for the airport's future if the international traffic does not expand include change of ownership from state to either municipality or private investors, in order to generate the funds necessary for continued development.
