FEB 17, 2005 (newstodate): Uganda has urged Norway to invest in the country's fish feed industry.
Fish farming is becoming popular in Uganda, but there is a growing scarcity of fish feed to meet the demands from the growing number of fish farms.
Uganda produces 240,000 tonnes of fish, but sees potentials to increasing to 350,000 tonnes if the fish feed bottleneck is overcome.
Of today's production, 60,000 tonnes is processed in factories, and some 25,000 tonnes of fillet is exported annually.
To further boost the industry, Uganda's government will promote Entebbe International Airport by reducing fuel costs and allow cheap cargo aircrafts like Antonovs, currently banned from the country, to operate at Entebbe as they do in other African states.
