FEB 24, 2005 (newstodate): With the latest announcement of an order from Ryanair for a total of up to 140 new aircraft, Boeing seems to take a lead over Airbus so far in this year's race for aircraft orders.
Ryanair has placed firm orders for 70 additional Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with options for up to 70 more, in one of the largest orders for the Boeing's Next-Generation 737.
Ryanair is Boeing's largest customer outside the U.S. for the Next-Generation 737.
It now has 73 Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft with an additional 152 on order, excluding options, after todays announcement.
Ryanair ordered its first 737-800 in March 1998 and received its first aircraft in 1999.
