FEB 11, 2005 (newstodate): As traffic loads at Prague Ruzyne build up, the need for another runway is becoming acute.
The airport's current development plan includes the start of construction on a new runway by 2007, at the latest.
This will be a runway parallel with the current main runway.
-The capacity of the existing runway system is used to the maximum and it is necessary to increase it with structural modifications. In the opposite case the airport could not satisfy the carriers' demand smoothly, and the delay of flights would be created, says Petr Hlousek, the Assistant General Director of the Czech Airports Authority for the Airport Operations Division.
In 2004, Prague generated a total of 144,962 aircraft movements, up 25.2 percent on the preceding year.
