FEB 23, 2005 (newstodate): Polish airline LOT's decision on acquisition of new aircraft to replace its fleet of Boeing 767 aircraft is turning into an issue of top-level foreign policy.
The Polish Prime Minister Marek Belka confirms that he has received letters from the state leaders of Britain, France and Germany as well as from the US president, each pressing the case for an Airbus or a Boeing option, respectively.
LOT was supposed to have made its decision on the acquisiton of five new aircraft before the end of 2004, but needs to further slim the airline in face of waning financial strength caused it to postpone the inking of a contract, leaving both options open.
