FEB 28, 2005 (newstodate): Within the next few months the regional Shtraklevo airport near Rousse, the second largest city in Northern Bulgaria, is to invite bidders for operational concessions.
Among companies that have already aired interest in the airport are a Swiss-Italian holding company and several Bulgarian and foreign companies.
With a 2,500 runway Shtraklevo Airport has the untapped capacity to handle aircraft up to the size of Boeing 747.
The plan for regional development includes a project for the reconstruction of the Shtraklevo airport in order to open it for domestic and international business and tourism routes as well as cargo flights.
The airport currently is currently used by operators of An-12 and An-24 passenger and cargo aircraft.
