FEB 05, 2005 (newstodate): This year's Hajj operation, now in its final stage, again highlighted problems with certain airlines' non-compliance with European safety requirements.
Among others, two Boeing 747 aircraft from Van Air, and one Airbus A310 from AMC Airlines, scheduled for taking pilgrims from Jeddah to French airport Basel, were denied landing rights for flight safety reasons.
They tried to obtain permission to land at other French airport, but eventually one had to land at Geneva Airport, and the other two at Oostende Airport.
