FEB 10, 2005 (newstodate): Based on strong growth in 2004, Carpatair is bent on further expansion in 2005.
In 2004, the privately-owned Romanian airline based in Timisoara noted an increase in passenger volumes by 50 percent to 291.000, compared to 2003.
One of the factors fueling last year's growth was Carpatair's expansion strategy. By
opening two more stations, Dusseldorf and Turin, the airline covered eleven cities in Italy
and Germany, in addition to Budapest and Chisinau.
In 2005, Carpatair plans new international routes in anticipation of Romania's accession to the EU by 2007.
Constanta and Naples are already
confirmed new routes, with operations starting from 21st March. For existing destinations, the
target is to increase the frequency of flights to six weekly connections, thus responding to
the increased travel demand in the region.
On the medium-term, two ambitious objectives concentrate aroud new destinations in EU
member states, such as France, Ireland and Spain, and a new jet fleet for which talks are
underway with Fokker and Boeing lessors.
Carpatair now operates six Saab 2000 and six Saab 340 after adding four SAAB 2000 aircraft in 2004.
