FEB 02, 2005 (newstodate): Billund Airport has opened 2005 with a strong growth in cargo figures.
After a record year in 2004 with close to 50,000 tonnes of air cargo, the airport reports a growth at 44.8 percent in January's cargo volumes.
Of the total of 4,581 tonnes of cargo handled, imports contributed 1,961 tonnes, up 35.1 percent, and exports 2,620 tonnes, up 52.9 percent.
The strong growth in export volumes was boosted by intense activities in relief flights for the Tsunami disaster zones by many international and national relief organisations that have increasingly located their flights at Billund Airport
