FEB 23, 2005 (newstodate): Albania is keen to develop its civil air transport system.
Part of plans to develop Albania's domestic air transport network is the ongoing construction of an airport at Kukes in the northeastern part of the country.
This project is financed with 13.6 million euros by the United Arab Emirates and will be completed by June.
The Kukes Airport is dedicated to air cargo movements, but the Albanian government is also negotiating with "several international companies" for concessionary agreements to build two airports for passenger transport Vlora and Saranda, in the southern coastal region.
Also on the drawing board are airport projects at Gjirokastra, Korca and Shkodra, local sources say.
