FEB 24, 2005 (newstodate): In January, Latvian company airBaltic Cargo's volumes were up 220 percent y-o-y.
-Latvia's entry into EU has course contributed to our strong growth, but we have expanded our trucking services, and our cargo capacity has been increased, too, says Haralds Treimanis, airBaltic Cargo Manager.
Although cargo trucking has increased significantly, the bulk of airBaltic's cargo is still flown, he says.
For 2005 Mr Treimanis expects a continued strong increase as the airline is to phase out its two remaining Avro 70 aircraft, replaced by Boeing 737-500 that offer more capacity.
-In January the Latvian market grew by only some seven percent in both exports and imports, so our increase may indicate a significant gain in market share, says Haralds Treimanis.
