FEB 02, 2005 (newstodate): Gothenburg Airport handled a total of 64,455 tonnes of air cargo in 2004, up 19 percent on the preceding year.
Imports accounted for 34,007 tonnes, up 27 percent, while exports grew by 11 percent to a total of 30,448 tonnes.
The comparatively lower growth in exports was caused by consistent drops during the three last months of 2004 that slowed down the otherwise positive trends.
The statistics do not include about 900 tonnes of domestic cargo flown to and from the airport. Also some 70,000 tonnes of trucked air cargo are not included in the figures.
-The statistics for 2004 are altogether not totally finalised as SAS and its handling company, Spirit, suffered from severe data problems through most of the year as a new data system was introduced, says Bjorn Lennartz, Gothenburg Airport manager route development.
-This is also the case for the figures on trucked air cargo. Of the 70,000 tonnes accounted for here, at least the figure of 51,000 tonnes is verified while the remaining volume is calculated on the basis of data provided by the cargo handling companies at the airport, he says.
