Dec 2, 2005 (newstodate): The project for Greenland's first major road construction to connect Kangerlussuaq Airport with the west coast is progressing.
A decision on the next step will be announced on December 15, a Sisimiut local government spokesman says.
So far issues that have been solved include a report on the environmental impact, a report on investments, and a technical assesment of the exact placing of the road.
The projected road would become Greenland's longest, and replace helicopter services with some 2.5-3 hours drive from Sisimiut on the west coast to reach the Atlantic airport.
Last year initial plans indicated that the road could be opened by October 1, 2008 after estimated investments of DKK 250-300 million and three years of construction work.
