Dec 16, 2005 (newstodate): Early this month, Icelandic shipping company Atlantsskip has added an air cargo department to its maritime services.
Atlantsskip now offers airfreight services in cooperation with Icelandair Cargo, Bluebird Cargo and Iceland Express as well as integrated air/sea transportation services.
-In Iceland we are agents for DFDS Transport and Frans Maas that are both in air and sea transportation, so we needed to add air cargo as well, says Samuel Grytvik, Atlantsskip Airfreight Manager.
-While imports will thus initially be our main business, we will of course seek to carve a niche in the air cargo export market as well, he says.
Some 93 percent of Iceland's export cargo is fresh fish, but Atlantsskip will focus on the market for general cargo, including shipments of electronics to the US and European markets.
