Dec 9, 2005 (newstodate): The Japan Coast Guard has awarded SAAB with a contract for two SAAB 340Bplus SAR aircraft.
The Japanese arm already operates two aircraft of the same type for search and rescue operations.
The pre-owned SAAB 340Bplus aircraft will be provided by SAAB Aircraft Leasing and the modifications required for search and rescue operations will be performed at the SAAB Aircraft AB facilities in Link�ping, Sweden.
The aircraft are slated for operational introduction by the end of next year.
