Dec 8, 2005 (newstodate): Work has started on a major expansion of the passenger terminal at Iceland's Keflavik Airport, planned to be completed in 2007.
The terminal, now handling 1.5 million passengers a year,will be expanded to cope with increasing traffic, recast to grow to 3.2 million passengers by 2015.
The traffic is mainly Transatlantic traffic to and from Iceland, and transit traffic through Reykjavik on Icelandair's Boeing 757 flights.
Last year passenger volumes on routes to and from Iceland were up 10 percent, and trasit passenger volumes increased by six percent, the airport says.
